No Label

Take the label off a plant and the price drops. Nothing else does.

This one has no label. The hobby's term is NOID — no identification — meaning its pedigree was lost somewhere between a seed tray and a sale, and in a trade that runs on names, a plant without one sells for less than its neighbours whatever the leaf looks like. One parent is known from the grower's record: 'Red Vein Dark Phoenix', made in Thailand in 2019 from a variegated Anthurium papillilaminum and a plant called 'Ace of Spades'. It was named for its resemblance to an earlier plant, 'Dark Phoenix', to which it has no known genetic relation; that one circulated out of Indonesia under a botanical garden accession number for a cross it wasn't. Neither country has a native Anthurium. The leaf is an elongated heart, dark velvet. It grows in Lexington, North Carolina.
